Weekly Worship - April 8, 2016

New Hope Christian

The non-denominational congregation of the New Hope Christian Fellowship will meet in its newly configured upper room of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church on Sunday, April 10, 10:45 a.m. for refreshments and fellowship. As a part of the 11 a.m. service, the congregation will observe open communion. Prior to that Pastor Gene Raymer will deliver the message “God Isn’t Fair.”

Says Raymer: “Jeremiah asks God why the wicked prosper. And yet the righteous suffer.”  He also promises an unusual twist at the end of the message.

Fellowship will continue with lunch at a local restaurant. For more information or specific directions to the church or details about the group, contact the pastor at 376-766-3435 or 333-724-6179.

Unitarians

Sunday, April 10, Kathy Koches gives the presentation, “A Free and Responsible Search for Truth and Meaning,” at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.  Koches will talk on the fourth UU principle, sharing her journey in becoming a UU — investigating, in her words, “just what do UU’s believe, anyway?” Bob Koches is the service leader.

The Unitarians have moved. They now meet 10:30 a.m. at their new facility at Hidalgo 261, opposite the bell tower, on the north side of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

St. Andrew’s Anglican

The first of four pastoral care seminars at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church is Saturday, April 9, 10:30 am. A Red Cross representative will provide information on how to be better prepared to handle emergencies and medical problems. At next Saturday’s seminar, lawyer Spencer McMullen will talk about the laws we need to be aware of to live in Mexico.

This Sunday, a rare look at the Book of Revelation is the focus of Fr. Winston Welty’s sermon. “Two Revealing Songs” compares a haunting song of desolation with the Church’s triumphant, paradoxical song of power through weakness. The Eucharistic liturgy begins at 10 a.m., with a post-worship “Coffee Hour” in the Garden.

Sunday School will not meet for the next two weeks, but as usual on the second Sunday of each month, donations will be received for the support of the children and their families in Jocotepec. And every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable food items, left in the baskets by the Church doors.

On Wednesday at 8:30 a.m., the monthly breakfast of the “Company of Gentlemen” welcomes into fellowship the men of the parish and the community in the Church kitchen.

St. Andrew’s is at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Christ Church Episcopal

Christ Church Episcopal will observe the Third Sunday of Easter, April 10, by celebrating the Holy Eucharist, Rite Two, at 9:30 a.m. at the Little Chapel by the Lake, located at Carretera 10 in Chula Vista.  Fr. Danny Borkowski will preside and give a message with the theme “Fish, Lambs, & Sheep,” based on John 21:1-19.  What’s going on with Peter?

The congregations of Christ Church and the Little Chapel by the Lake share a common fellowship time between their two services, from about 10:35 a.m. until 11:10 a.m.

Christ Church sponsors a Bible Study Tuesday, 2 p.m. Join them and spend an hour tackling the Book of Genesis.

The Lakeside Singers are taking off April.

Lake Chapala Baptist

Brother Michael Hoyle will be preaching at Lake Chapala Baptist Sunday, April 10. His sermon is “Chosen to Build a Spiritual House.”

“As a Christian my life is not my own. I was redeemed with the precious blood of Christ,” Hoyle says. “I live my life knowing that God lives in me. God’s living word says that my body is the temple of the Lord and that I am a spiritual house. Questions: What is a spiritual house?  How can I build a spiritual house? This Sunday, come and hear what the Lord has to say to you about building a spiritual house.”

Little Chapel

On Sunday, April 10, the Little Chapel by the Lake’s “Praise and Prayer” time will start at 11:15 a.m. The guest speaker will be Frances Clemmons.

Coffee hour before the service begins at 10:30 a.m.

The Little Chapel is a nondenominational Christian fellowship. It is located at Carretera 10 in Chula Vista, east of the golf course entrance. Call 766-2538 for more information.

Lakeside Presbyterian

Lakeside Presbyterian Church meets Sundays in their new church building in Riberas.  Turn towards the lake at Mom’s Restaurant, the church is two blocks down on the right. English-language services at 10 a.m. and Spanish-language services at noon.

San Andres English

On Sunday, April 10, Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min. will offer the homily “It is the Lord.”

“In this Eucharist, we proclaim Christ is the Lord, the Lamb that was sacrificed and who is worthy to be given power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory and blessing,” says Royston. “The Apostles accepted every kind of humiliation rather than give up proclaiming His name.”

The Second Sunday white envelope offering for the outreach projects of the San Andres congregation takes place after Mass. This offering supports many local charities: Anita’s Shelter, six student scholarships, Villa Infantil, Operation Feed, Cruz Roja, Niños Incapacitados, El Corazon del Ancianos, the Ancianos Christmas Dinner, the San Andrés fiesta, Niños y Jovenes, and scholarships for local Seminarian students.

San Andres is located at the corner of Ramon Corona and Parroquia, one block from the Ajijic main plaza.

St. Mark’s Anglican, Guadalajara

On Sunday, April 10,  English Mass begins at the regular time, 10:30 a.m., and Dr. Jim Priddy’s sermon will focus on the day’s readings, including the story in John 21 of Jesus’s third visit after his resurrection to his apostles at the Sea of Tiberius and the account in Acts 9 of Saul’s persecution of Jesus’s followers and Jesus’s subsequent, cataclysmic visit to him while enroute to Damascus.

The choir will sing seasonal Easter hymns  including Johann Bach’s beautiful arrangement of “Christ Jesus Lay in Death’s Strong Bands” with words by Martin Luther.

St. Mark’s holds Sunday services in English at 10:30 a.m.  Choir practice is at 9:45 a.m. Sundays and people from the community are encouraged to join the choir.
