Weekly Worship – September 10, 2016

St. Andrew’s Anglican

At St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, we know that we all face losses in life. How we find meaning in those losses is critical to our ability to turn around and move in a new direction. It may come as a surprise to know that “turn around” is the meaning of the word “repentance,” the theme running through this Sunday’s readings. In her sermon, “Why I’m Wearing Capris to the Cathedral,” the Rev. Robbin del Nagro talks about how God’s love helps us turn around when we face losses and find new paths to life and joy.

Sunday worship at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church begins with the Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m.  The children’s bilingual Sunday School starts at 9:45, and coffee offers fellowship after the service.

The Company of Gentlemen welcomes men of the church and the community to their monthly breakfast on Wednesday, September 14, 9 a.m. at the Avocado Club, located in the new Rose Bowl Mall in San Antonio Tlayacapan.

Thursday, September 15, everyone is invited to put on their best Mexican party clothes and join the congregation for a Mexican Fiesta, catered by Viva Mexico. Social hour begins at 2 p.m., when the Ballet Folklorico Madehuani from the Ramon Corona Basilio Vadillo will perform. The comida will be served at 3 p.m.  The cost is 150 pesos per person.

This Sunday, St. Andrew’s will collect donations for the support of the Sunday School children and their families in Jocotopec. And every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable food items. Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to rice, beans, pasta, oil, and salt.

St. Andrew’s is at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Lake Chapala Baptist

Says Brother Bob Hendrick: “It’s been said that the first 18 years of life are a free trial and the rest is pay to play.  This past summer a youth minister I used to work with streamed some live video of youth camp online. As I prepared to watch it, I was thinking, I am going to see something that I have really been missing. I am going to wish I were there. I did not. The worship was rambunctious but Biblical, overtly youthful, and loud. I am glad God has brought me to this chronological age.  It suits my tastes and energy level. Really, none of my life has been free. Jesus paid for it all. So as I live the life I have at the age that I am, the question I ask is, ‘Is the life I am living worth Christ’s dying?’”

Hendrick will give the sermon at this Sunday’s 11 a.m. worship service at the Lake Chapala Baptist Church, at Santa Margarita 147 in Riberas del Pilar.

Lakeside Presbyterian

According to the Apostle Paul, every Christian is given one or more gifts by the Holy Spirit, to be used “for the common good” of the Church.  The question for many people is – what are my gifts?  And how am I supposed to be using them?

On Sunday, September 11, Pastor Ross Arnold of Lakeside Presbyterian Church will continue his series on the spiritual gifts with a sermon entitled “Gifts of Leadership” – the gifts God gives to people needed in leadership roles in the Church.  Whether the gifts of pastoring, leadership, administration or others, God provides whenever and wherever there are leadership needs.

The Lakeside Presbyterian congregation meets in their church building in Riberas del Pilar. Turn toward the lake on Calle San Jorge at Mom’s Restaurant. The church is two blocks on the right. English-language services at 10 a.m. and Spanish-language services at 9 a.m. and noon

New Hope Christian

The non-denominational congregation of New Hope Christian Fellowship will celebrate Communion on Sunday, September 11.  The service will also include a brief pause to remember those who died on September 11, 2001, as well as all those who have died as a result of the events of that day.  The remainder of the service will include hymns, prayers and a message by Rev. Gene Raymer which he has given the title “A New Meaning.”

Explains the pastor: “Jesus and the disciples sat down to celebrate Passover commemorating their delivery from the Egyptians.  But during the course of the meal, Jesus gave new meaning to the symbolic bread and wine they consumed.”

The congregation meets in the upper room of the Presbyterian church at 11 a.m. and follows the service with a meal at a local restaurant.  All Christian believers are invited to attend the service and celebrate The Lord’s Supper.  For more information, call the pastor at (376) 766-3435.

Christ Church Episcopal

Christ Church Episcopal will observe the Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost by celebrating The Holy Eucharist September 11, 9:30 a.m. at the Little Chapel by the Lake, located at Carretera 10 in Chula Vista. Fr. Danny Borkowski will preside and give a message with the theme “Joy” based on Luke 15:1-10.

The congregations of Christ Church Episcopal and Little Chapel share a common fellowship time between their two services, from about 10:35 until 11:25 a.m.
Christ Church Episcopal sponsors a Bible Study Tuesday, 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the Little Chapel.

Congregants from Christ Church Episcopal will join the Lakeside Singers in a sing-along at La Casa Nostra, Wednesday, September 14, 4:30 p.m.  The group will then dine out around 6 p.m. at a place to be determined.

Little Chapel by the Lake

Pastor Jonathan Admire will give the sermon at the 11:30 a.m. Sunday, September 11 service at the Little Chapel by the Lake.

Coffee and refreshments are served before the service.

The Little Chapel is located at Carretera 10 in Chula Vista. For more information, call 766-2538.

San Andres English

“The Christ we celebrate in this Mass is the second Moses who interceded for sinners, who came into the world to save them, and who loves them and welcomes them.”

So says Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min., who will offer the homily “Christ, Who Welcomes Sinners” at San Andres Catholic Church’s English-language service Sunday, September 11, 9 a.m.
