Unitarian Universalists

“Born Again and Again and Again” is the subject at the next meeting of the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Sunday, April 29, 10:30 a.m.

What does it take to find yourself with an entirely new perspective, one that gives energy and purpose to your life? For many of us, daily routines and obligations can feel like they get in the way. However, when you look back, how many different “selves” can you count? Our emotional and spiritual lives include many stops on an infinitely variable path. We will reflect on how many times we have journeyed to a new beginning. The sermon will be a combination of Rev. Bonnie Vegiard, by video, with personal reflections by Rev. Matt Alspaugh. Liz Molder is Service Leader.

The Unitarians meet Sundays at Hidalgo 261, on the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar, opposite the Catholic Church.

Abundant Life Church

Pastor Gary asks, “What is the thing you hope for most? This may seem like a big question, but for Christians, there is only one answer. We are waiting, hoping, dreaming for the swift return of Jesus. We are looking forward to a day when there are no more tears or pain and we get to live in perfect harmony with God. The world has a much different answer though, and at times even a believer may be drawn into the selfish trap the world offers. Come this Sunday, April 29, to have your passion for the return of Jesus rekindled.”

Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico and has services for everyone. An English-language worship service is held each Sunday, 10 a.m. and Bible Study Wednesday, 3 p.m. Spanish-language services are Sunday at noon. Spanish-language Bible studies are Wednesday, 6:45 p.m. A children’s ministry is held Saturday, noon, and youth meet Sunday, 6:30 p.m.

The church is located at Carretera Chapala-Jocotepec 140, San Antonio Tlayacapan, a block from Super Lake. For more information, call 331-417-7038 (cel).

Lakeside Presbyterian

Sunday, April 29, Pastor Dwayne Bartley entitles his sermon “My Life Story.” His text is drawn from 2 Corinthians 9:7-9 NASB translation. The text speaks of generosity, but even further, of cheerful generosity, not reluctantly nor under compulsion.

Many of us were taught this principle in our childhood, but hearing it in God’s own words, as set forth by Pastor Dwayne may refresh our memories ... and spur our actions.

Lakeside Presbyterian Church is located at San Jorge 250 in Riberas del Pilar.  English-language services begin each Sunday at 10 a.m., Spanish-language services at 9 a.m. Sunday School for adults begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Library, and Fridays, Bible Study begins at 9:45 a.m., also in the Library. Everyone is welcome.

Little Chapel by the Lake

“How does the ‘Gospel of peace’ apply to spiritual warfare? And what does this have to do with the full armor?” asks Pastor Ken. “Find out the answer to this and other pressing questions in a life-changing, six-week series that will have you looking at ‘the full armor of God’ like you never have before.”

This Sunday’s conversation at Little Chapel is titled “Full Armor.” It is drawn from Ephesians 6 and other passages. Pastor Ken takes you to the historical and biblical context of the Roman armor the apostle Paul was describing in his letter to the church at Ephesus.

Non-denominational Christian, English-language Sunday worship service is at 11 a.m. An informal hour of worship music, prayer, and open communion begins at 10 a.m. Everyone is invited to stay for a friendly comida (church meal) after the service.

Little Chapel is a dog-friendly congregation, to allow for those who need to keep their fur friends close. St. Andrew’s Anglican

“’I am the vine and you are the branches.’ What does Jesus mean by saying this? How can these agricultural images help us to better understand our faith and our lives? Come join us Sunday, April 29, as we explore these words of Jesus,” says Rev. Glenn Chalmers, rector of St. Andrew’s.

St. Andrew’s service of Holy Eucharist begins Sunday, 10 a.m. and bilingual Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m. Coffee hour, a time of fellowship and welcome, follows the service.

Friday May 4, a Ladies Luncheon will be held; time and location to be determined.

Every Sunday, Operation Feed, the feeding program supported by St. Andrew’s, welcomes donations of non-perishable food items. Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to rice, beans, pasta, lentils, garbanzos, oats, oil and salt. The parish distributes these foodstuffs to the Lakeside’s neediest families.

Decluttering? Clearing out your closet? If you are, please don’t forget St. Andrew’s resale shop, Todo Bueno.  Every donation or consignment you make benefits the church’s Outreach Ministry. Donations of clothing, kitchenware, electronics, bric-a-brac, furniture, appliances, books, collectables, sports equipment, etc., enables the parish to financially support a number of charities around Lakeside. Todo Bueno is located on the highway, next to S&S Auto in Riberas de Pilar, and is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Saturday.

St. Andrew’s is located at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Lake Chapala Baptist

The book of Job answers the question: From where comes wisdom? Job’s three friends challenged him regarding this.

Eliphaz said wisdom comes from experiences in life. Analyze God and you get wisdom. Bildad said wisdom comes from past accumulated knowledge. God is already figured out and is in the traditions of the church. Zophar said wisdom is inside us. Tap into it and you will know God and wisdom.

Job says wisdom comes from God. Additionally, Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” If we don’t have that “fear” we will never have wisdom no matter how much we claim otherwise. Many despise wisdom and instruction (Pro 1:7) and try to find it through other methods.

“I go to church to see a fresh and clear picture of Jesus Christ and his wisdom,” says Deacon David Powell.

Lake Chapala Baptist Church is located at Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar. Sunday worship begins at 11 a.m.

Christ Church Lakeside

Christ Church Lakeside, formally Christ Church Episcopal, an Anglican/Episcopal mission of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the fifth Sunday of Easter, April 29, with the Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m. in the La Huerta Eventos Center (where the Tuesday Organic Market is held), Carretera West 522, West Ajijic. Rev. Robbin Del Nagro will preside and give a message “Taxicab Testimonies.”

Following the refreshments and coffee after the service, the Lunch Bunch will meet noon at El Ancla Restaurant, Chapala-Jocotepec Carretera 960, west Ajijic, (376) 106-2011.

The Bible Study will not meet until resuming sometime in May  after the return of Rev. Danny Borkowski. The date will be announced later. At that time, all are welcome to learn about the inspired contents of the Bible.

San Andres English

“When, like St. Paul, we ‘believe in the name of Jesus Christ,’ God lives in us and we in him. We become branches of the true vine, Jesus Christ.” Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min., will offer the homily “Christ the True Vine” at San Andres Catholic Church’s English-language service Sunday, April 29, 9 a.m.

San Andres is located at the corner of Ramon Corona and Parroquia, one block from the Ajijic main plaza.

Home Church Int’l

To fill the role as an ambassador usually means to demonstrate admirable characteristics.  The term is not limited to being a governmental diplomat. Nonetheless, the term does amplify the importance of being exemplary. This means that according to your identity, this calls for being the best of your kind. As a guest in a home, a convention, or in a foreign country, we often set the example of all others with our identity. This could mean nationally, racially, etc. Especially in Mexico, what example are we setting before Mexicans, for example, to evaluate any and all like us?

It is up to each individual to decide how valid and important is their faith identity. Our Lord Jesus was well aware of this. One side of the coin is how demonstrative is our faith in order to display our ambassadorship of our God. The other side asks, Is our behavior, attitude, and representation falling short of what should be shown from our lips and lives? Pastors Paul and Susana Allen believe our call is to be the Lord’s ambassadors as a positive witness. For more, contact them at (332) 242- 8648, or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots.
