Weekly Worship - July 22, 2023

Heritage Baptist Church of Mexico

“We have heard with our ears, oh God, what you did through our forebears.” (Ps:44)

We enjoy freedoms today that began with the Reformation. The Church should always be open to the teaching that Christ has for us, yet the only true heirs of the Reformation are those who take its principles and apply them.

These principles are the lifeblood of the Reformation: Sola Scriptura (scripture alone), Sola Gratia (grace alone), and Sola Fide (faith alone). Some 500 years later, how relevant are these precepts today? God’s word says “Let no man glory in men,” (1st Cor. 3:21), but we live in the day of the personality cult.

Do you need something more than the Bible? A prophet? A dynamic cult leader? We must stand with great discernment in these times of turmoil and deception. You can’t have true faith in God until you turn from the world and embrace your Savior. That is called repentance.

Martin Luther said, “My con science is held captive to none other than the word of God. God help me, here I stand.” Can you say the same?

Join us at 11:15 a.m. in the Upper Room at the Presbyterian Church in Riberas del Pilar. Open prayer, then the worship service. Bible study and fellowship every Wednesday at 4:30. Unitarian Universalist

Sunday, July 23, Rev. Matt Alspaugh will present “God Wants You To Be Rich” at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

Prosperity Gospel is the idea that God rewards the faithful with material and physical well-being,  especially financial success. It’s an idea that developed mostly in the United States, aligning well with American ideas of individualism and materialism. We’ll look for early Unitarian connections with prosperity gospel, and explore how we might respond to this tradition today.

Lakeside Presbyterian

This Sunday, July 23, Debbie Newman will talk about “The Revelation of Jesus Given from God to you, His Servants.”

Revelation, written during the reign of Domitian, sometime around 95-96 AD, is often the book of the Bible that most people either avoid or emphasize its signs and content until they decide what they believe. It is not easy to interpret and many people are afraid of what others have concluded. There are several eschatological views of Revelation to explore. Contained in this book is a call to worship, a reason to totally trust the mystery of what has been revealed and focus your life on preparation for Jesus’ second coming.  This week we will focus on how the book of Revelation can draw you to deeper love of God and become a guide to worship.
