Spay and Neuter

Lakeside Spay & Neuter (the “ranch”), would like to thank everyone who has donated to help with replacing items damaged in the recent fire. Now they are asking for help once more. To add insult to injury, someone broke in and stole equipment, one very valuable piece being the weed whacker. This is an important item for the ranch and is very costly to replace, as it is not your garden variety trimmer. Please find it in your heart to help them once more. Donations may be dropped off at HandyMail or the PetCare store in Riberas del Pilar.

Lakeside Spay and Neuter will hold an Adoption Day at the PetCare  store on Saturday, May 4. They also have a PayPal account on their website: www.lakesidespayandneuter.com.

Red Cross

Paramedic and first aid instructor Christie Prine will give a talk titled “Falls, Fractures and Bleeding” at the upcoming Cruz Roja Community Education series scheduled Wednesday, May 8, 2 p.m. in the Lake Chapala Society gazebo.

Prine will discuss and demonstrate what to do when someone falls, how to stabilize a possible fracture and how to control bleeding.

This 90-minute demonstration is part of Cruz Roja’s “First Steps to First Aid” program, designed to inform the public how to recognize an emergency and what to do before the ambulance arrives. Everyone is welcome!

Tarahumara Mother’s Day

Libby Townsend of the Tarahumara Project, along with singer Louie Andrade and La Bodega Restaurant, are holding a special Mother’s Day event to benefit the Tarahumara women of the Copper Canyon on Wednesday, May 8, 6 p.m.

It has been a long winter in the Copper Canyon and the free hospital that Townsend’s project supports is filled with children who have serious lung problems and are suffering from malnutrition. What better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than to provide women with the means to help their children?

The event, held at La Bodega, will have a 30-peso cover charge that will go directly to the Tarahumara Project. The Project will also receive 20 percent of all other sales of drinks and meals. Tarahumara arts and crafts will be on sale.

No tickets are necessary, but be sure to call 766-1002 for reservations.

Christ Church Anglican

Christ Church Anglican Fellowship will observe the Sixth Sunday of Easter by celebrating the Holy Eucharist Rite II at 9:30 a.m. in the Little Chapel by the Lake (Carretera 10, Chula Vista). Father Danny Borkowski’s sermon topic is “The Father Is Greater than I,” based on John 14:23-29. Christ Church and the Little Chapel by the Lake have a common fellowship time between their two services in the Fellowship Hall of the Little Chapel from about 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.  Since this is the first Sunday of the month, Christ Church will join with the Little Chapel in their monthly potluck luncheon after their 11:15 a.m. service at about 12:15 p.m. The theme for this potluck is Italian.  This is also Communion Sunday for the Little Chapel by the Lake.  All are welcome to join in any of these great events.

St. Andrew’s Anglican

This week’s sermon at St. Andrew’s, “Love Tolerates No Orphans,” reflects on what it means to have a home, and to be at home. The homily eavesdrops at the Last Supper as Jesus – about to be betrayed, arrested, tortured, and executed – speaks of home as both future and present, both “out there” and “in here.”  Is home the place where we live, the place where loved ones wait for us, a place toward which we are always moving without ever arriving, or is it somewhere or something else?  Is the notion of a “Church home” just a pious platitude?  At St. Andrew’s, the 10 a.m. Sunday worship and fellowship is a weekly “welcome home.”

The “Update 2013” remodeling project that begins this week will make St. Andrew’s an even more welcoming, inclusive, and accepting home for  members, friends, our neighbors, and community groups.  Also this week, the “Company of Gentlemen” welcomes all men to their monthly breakfast on Wednesday, May 1, 8:30 a.m. in the church kitchen.  St. Andrew’s is located at Calle San Lucas 19, one block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Presbyterians

John Whitener will be the guest preacher at Lakeside Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 5. His message will be “For This Purpose,” with Acts 26:9-28 as the text. Sunday worship begins at 10 a.m.

The book of Galatians is under discussion in the 10 a.m. Friday morning interactive Bible study on May 10. (The Bible study is designed so you can drop in at any time – you don’t need to wait for a new book or topic to begin.) Lakeside Presbyterian Church is located on the mountain side of the Carretera just west of S&S Auto and Bubba’s Restaurant.

Spiritual living

The Center for Spiritual Living’s regular service is on Fridays from 5-6 p.m. at Nicolas Bravo 17 in Ajijic. The Center’s theme for May is “The Divine Feminine.” The Center will welcome guest speaker Reverend Nancy Anderson on Mother’s Day weekend, Friday, May 10.  Her presentation will be “The Birth of the New.”  Following this will be a potluck celebration honoring our mothers.  Please bring one of your mother’s favorite dishes. You may have a story to tell, as well.  The Wednesday class, “Basics of Spiritual Living” is from 10:30 to noon and the Thursday class, “The Experience of God,” begins with a meditation from 10 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. and class from 10:30 a.m. to noon.  The ‘Third Sunday Movie,’ May 19 at 4 p.m., is “Peaceful Warrior.” All are welcome.
