The Club Amities Francophones for local French speakers celebrates its 150th meeting at La Vita Bella (Rafael Osuna 200, San Juan Cosala Raquet Club) on Saturday, July 20, 1 p.m.
The lunch menu includes two appetizers: Italian salad and artichokes in blue cheese sauce.
There are three entrée choices: Steak au Poivre, Chicken Dijon or Trout with lemon and capers. Special orders from an a la carte menu are available upon request.
The cost of the lunch is 220 pesos per person, tip included. A no-host bar is available.
Entertainment will be provided by “Magical Violin.”
The guest speaker will be retired University of Guadalajara professor Bernard Notin.
Non-French speakers who attend will be seated together.

Founded in 1997, the club generally meets the third Saturday of the month for a potluck at a member’s home or a meal at a local restaurant.
According to Vanhoudt, special invites have been extended to the Belgian and Canadian consuls, as well as the director of the Alianza Francesa, the French cultural and language center in Guadalajara.
Dog training
Agility training for dogs takes place on Sunday, July 7, from 9-11 a.m. at the Free Spirit Playpark (Ramon Corona 166, San Antonio Tlayacapan).
Trainer Jena Olio of Clickerpets Mexico says participating dogs need to have some basic obedience skills. However, owners do not need to do extensive running.

Haiwaiian Luau
The Cruz Roja International Volunteers’ Second Annual Haiwaiian Luau, slated for Saturday, July 27, 5-8 p.m., takes place in La Huerta Events Salon, west of Ajijic.
The dinner will be catered by Manix Restaurant and live entertainment is provided by Hal Matthews on the ukelele. There will be a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and a cash bar. Tickets cost 300 pesos per person and are on sale at the Lake Chapala Society, SuperLake, Diane Pearl Gallery Ajijic and the Tuesday Farmer’s Market at La Huerta.
Kids’ camps
Summer day-camps for kids aged 5 to 14 are being organized by Chapala’s Municipal Sport Council (Comude). Various programs will be offered from July 8 through August 9 in Chapala, Ajijic, San Antonio Tlayacapan, Santa Curz de la Soledad and San Nicolas de Ibarra.
Activities include swimming, basketball, soccer, volleyball, field and track, painting and other games.

Spanish-language classes
The Lake Chapala Society’s next term of Spanish-language classes begin on Monday, July 15 and will cover seven weeks of study ending on August 31.
The LCS Spanish program uses the Warren Hardy Spanish language course, which is designed for the adult student. Several levels of learning are available as students progress in the program.
Registration for these classes is currently underway at the LCS office on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sign-up for classes will also be held the week of July 8-12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the blue umbrella patio of the LCS campus.
Introduction to Spanish
This casual class is offered for beginners and covers the Spanish alphabet, simple vocabulary and phrases to use about town for shopping, and other useful information on our area and Mexican culture. Classes are held each month starting the first Tuesday of the month and go for three weeks. July classes start on July 9, and are held at the LCS campus from noon until 1:30 p.m. Learning materials are provided and the tuition cost is 150 pesos.
Sign up is currently available at the LCS office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Christ Church Anglican
Christ Church Anglican Fellowship will celebrate the Seventh Sunday after Pentecost on July 7 by celebrating the Holy Eucharist Rite II at 9:30 a.m. in the Little Chapel by the Lake (Carretera 10, Chula Vista). Father Danny Borkowski’s sermon topic is “Rejoice at What?” based on Luke 10:1-11,16-20.
Christ Church and the Little Chapel by the Lake share a common fellowship time between their two services in the Fellowship Hall of the Little Chapel from about 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 p.m.
This Sunday is also “Beans and Rice Sunday,” when members of both congregations are asked to bring bags of beans and rice to be given to the Love in Action children’s shelter.
After the 11:15 a.m. service at Little Chapel, there will be a hot dog and hamburger potluck luncheon at the Shangri-La Retirement Living Facility (Ramon Corona 169, San Antonio Tlayacapan, behind Walmart), sponsored by both congregations. Bring a dish to go with hot dogs or hamburgers.
Cursillo
The western Mexico Anglican Church diocese is holding a cursillo in Zapopan on Thursday, 25 July, from 5 p.m. until after the closing service on Sunday, July 28, which begins at 5 p.m.
A cursillo is an intense weekend dedicated to helping Christians become better disciples and church leaders. The atmosphere is somewhat like a retreat but is full of opportunities for spiritual growth and always contains a few pleasant surprises. Anyone interested in attending should contact Fr. Center for Spiritual Living
The Reverend Rebecca Pina, director of Online Spanish Studies for Centers, will speak at the center’s regular 5-6 p.m. service on on Friday, July 12. Her topic will be “The Internet - Shrinking the World, Expanding Spirituality.”
Sacred Cinema “What the Bleep” will be held on Sunday, July 14 this month due to a special activity at the regular time. Popcorn is provided. Bring your own drink.
Wednesday’s Prosperity Class is titled “Prosperity as a Lifestyle,” while Thursday’s class is “The Experience of God.” Classes run from 10:30 a.m. to noon, with an optional meditation from 10 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. on Thursdays.

Little Chapel
The theme for Little Chapel by the Lake’s Sunday 11:15 a.m. service is “A Special Day for LIA.” Children from Love In Action will present a musical number and a representative will explain the program there. “LIA has a tremendous need for help in all areas so we’re declaring this Sunday ‘Beans and Rice Day’ and asking members to bring bags of beans or rice to help”, says Rev. Gene Raymer. Following the pastor’s sermon, “The New Priest,” there will be a cook-out at Shangri-La featuring hamburgers and hot dogs hosted by members Joannie and Fernley Smith.
The Little Chapel by the Lake is an interdenominational congregation and welcomes Christians from all denominations. It is located at Carretera 10, Chula Vista just east of Chula Vista Golf Club.
St. Andrew’s Anglican
What does a life revolve around? Where is the center? God knows we try all sorts of things to give meaning to our lives – money, family, children, sex, status, success, the list goes on and on, one counterfeit after another to fill what St. Augustine called the “God-shaped void” at the center of every life. For many, perhaps most, that scurrying after meaning never ends until life itself ends. But for some, those who are willing to take the risk of abandoning all false securities, life can realize its truest meaning. Those few are called disciples, and, as this Sunday’s sermon at St. Andrew’s suggests, “Disciples Are Different.”
St. Andrew’s service begins at 10 a.m., and is always followed by a time of welcome, refreshment and fellowship in the garden.
This Sunday worship will be led by one of our open “pick-up” choirs. If you’d like to join in, all you have to do is show up at the church at 9:20 a.m. – no robes, no processions, no commitment, just an opportunity to make a joyful noise. Everyone is welcome. You don’t even have to be a church member.

Presbyterians
The subject of Pastor Ross Arnold’s sermon at Lakeside Presbyterian Church on Sunday, July 7 will be “Pairing Up.” Based on Mark 6:6-13, he will explore the issue of absolute trust and faith, and how it relates to us in the 21st century.
Lakeside Presbyterian Church is located on the mountain side of the Carretera, just west of S&S Auto and Bubba’s Restaurant. Sunday worship begins at 10 a.m. Following the service, there is a time of fellowship and refreshments.
Unitarians
The Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship meets each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Sta. Margarita 113 (southwest corner of Santa Clara and Sta. Margarita) in Riberas del Pilar.
