Casi Nuevo estate sales

With two estate sales successfully completed in just one month, the Casi Nuevo team is ready for their next one.

In its first sale, Casi Nuevo sold the entire contents of a two-story house in one day.  In the second, the estate owner was forced to move out of her home quickly, so Casi Nuevo was unable to use the house as a sales location.

“We posted photos on the School for Special Needs Children website and sold many of the items in a few days,” store volunteers said in a press release. “The balance of the items were transferred to the Casi Nuevo store, where we sold most within a week.”

Casi Nuevo volunteers also prepared posters that were placed around town and hung a large signboard on the Carretera on the day of the sale.

“We have proven that we can manage the pricing, staffing and selling of entire households to the complete satisfaction of the estate owner,” the release said.

Casi Nuevo will also arrange for transferring the household items to the store, as required.

All profits from estate sales go to supporting Casi Nuevo’s three children’s charities:  the School for Special Needs Children (formerly School for the Deaf), the Lake Chapala Society Educational Program and Have Hammer … Will Travel.

To see an example of an estate sale photo promotion on the school’s website, go to www.lakesideschoolforthedeaf.org and click on “Estate Sale.”

St. Andrew’s Anglican

In St. Luke’s Gospel, the Parable of the Good Samaritan is followed immediately by the story of Jesus’s visit with His friends Mary and Martha of Bethany.  There’s a connection between the two stories, even though the second seemingly contradicts the first.  The lawyer quizzing Jesus was told to do more, while this week Jesus tells Martha to stop doing so much!  “Risky Hospitality” is the title of this week’s sermon at St. Andrew’s, and it aims to reconcile those two instructions.

From the 9:45 a.m. Sunday School for children, to the 10 a.m. worship, to the post-worship fellowship and welcome in the Garden, there’s nothing risky about the warm hospitality extended to members, strangers, visitors and guests every week at St. Andrew’s, located at Calle San Lucas #9, just a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Presbyterians

Some of the most beloved stories we recall from our childhood speak of the miracles Jesus performed.  Who does not remember “Feeding the multitude: the miracle of the loaves and fishes?”  This astonishing story is recounted in all four Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  About 5,000 hungry men were fed, plus many more women and children.  Based on Mark 6:30-44, Pastor Ross Arnold’s sermon on Sunday, July 21 at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church will be “Caring for the Sheep.”

Sunday worship begins at 10 a.m., following which there will be a time of fellowship and refreshments.  All are welcome.

Lakeside Presbyterian Church is located on the mountain side of the Carretera, just west of S&S Auto and Bubba’s Restaurant.

Christ Church Anglican

Christ Church Anglican Fellowship will celebrate the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost on July 21 by celebrating the Holy Eucharist Rite II at 9:30 a.m. in the Little Chapel by the Lake (Carretera 10, Chula Vista, Ajijic).  Rev. Deacon Rob’s sermon topic is “Martha, Oh Martha” based on Luke 10:38-42. Christ Church and the Little Chapel by the Lake share a common fellowship time between their two services in the Fellowship Hall of the Little Chapel from about 10:30 a.m. 11:15 a.m.

Little Chapel

The Little Chapel by the Lake will hold its regular worship service on Sunday, July 21 following the joint refreshment period with the Anglican Fellowship.

Rev. Gene Raymer will deliver a sermon, “Lessons From Luke,” which he has subtitled “The Sins of Jesus.”  A Fellowship luncheon at La Nueva Posada in Ajijic will follow the service.

The Little Chapel is an interdenominational church and welcomes all Christian believers.

Center for Spiritual Living

Reverend Tim Schubert will present “Two Worlds” at the Center for Spiritual Living’s regular service on Friday, July 26, 5-6 p.m.

New classes held on Wednesdays and Thursdays will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon.  “Nonviolent Communication,” with Practitioner Arch Crane, begins Wednesday, July 24 and “Natural Abundance, Emerson’s Guide to Prosperity” begins Thursday, July 25.
