Pet support

The Pancho Project supports the health of pets in Mezcala and San Pedro with quarterly healthcare events, annual spay and neuter campaign, critical care assistance and education.

The group’s goal of US$6,000 is half way there. Every dollar you donate will be matched up to US$3,000. At a clinic July 19, 250 vaccines to dogs and cats were administered and the animals were treated for fleas and ticks, outfitted with new collars and leashes and free dog food. Two veterinarians from Lakeside Vet (Carretera Pte 242 in La Huerta, Ajijic) were helped by more than a dozen volunteers. To donate go to panchoproject.org.

FoodBank challenge

pg16bFoodBank Lakeside is having a fund-raising challenge that ends Monday, July 31. The goal is to raise 200,000 pesos so an anonymous donor will contribute another 80,500 pesos. To help, go to foodbanklakeside.org/donate.

Benefit Flamenco

La Estacion Pizza and Bakery in Riberas del Pilar (above Pancho’s Market) is holding a Flamenco night, Saturday, July 29, 7:30 p.m., to benefit Sergio Unzueta’s battle with cancer. Performers are Veronica Reyes, Claudia Nuñez, Javier Raygoza and Emmanuel Mioranda. No cover.

Open Circle

International Gay Games in Guadalajara: Making History Together is the theme for Open Circle Sunday, July 30, 10:30 a.m. at the Lake Chapala Society.

In November, Guadalajara is hosting the International Gay Games. The Gay Games are considered to be the most important sports and cultural competition of diversity. Like the Olympic Games, it is held every four years with 10,000 participants. The Gay Games, in addition to integrating sports disciplines, also integrates a cultural and conference agenda.
Metropolitan Guadalajara is proud to host The Gay Games.

It’s not necessary to belong to the LGBTTIQ+ community to participate, it is required to be over 18 years of age. The competitions are open to varied abilities.

Come learn why Guadalajara was chosen as a host and how you might support this effort as a volunteer, a participant, a spectator or to sponsor a local participant. The Gay Games in Guadalajara will be held from November 3 to 11. There are 22 sports that make up the competition.

Christmas in July

American Legion Post 7 Chapala Auxiliary sponsors this special bazaar every year. This year, 34 vendors will participate, offering unique, one-of-a-kind gifts. The Auxiliary is also having a bake sale. If you’d like to donate, drop off your baked goods at the Legion (Morelos 114) on Saturday or Sunday morning. Doors open to the public at 10 a.m. The bar will offer hot coffee and other beverages. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be coming off the grill around 11:30 a.m.

Gong Bath

Villa del Angel B&B and wellness center is the setting for a full moon gong bath Tuesday, August 1, 6 to 7:45 p.m. Sandra Golden will preside with light Kundalini yoga, a long gong bath and meditation. 250 pesos. Juarez 3, in Ajijic. See villadelangelajijic.com.

Healing workshop

Jodi Burke and Victoria Simoneaux will hold a breath and sound healing workshop at Casa Verde, Wednesday, August 2, 3 to 5 p.m. The workshop will include Holotropic breath, crystal and Tibetan bowls, meditation and gong with high frequency music, quantum energy, chakra and Reiki healings. 400 pesos. Located at Carretera Poniente 545A just west of Fresh Market.

Lake Chapala Society will hold its first Annual Beer Fest Saturday, August 5, 3 to 6:30 p.m.

A terrific array of tasty Craft Beers, to taste and for purchase, and a cash bar for those who prefer nonalcoholic beverages or wine, is available to quench your thirst. To round things off, real German Pretzels are for sale from Vicky’s Sourdough Donuts and original German brats and steaks on a bun from El Aleman.

Dance to the music of  the Dirty Black Beans and work up a thirst and appetite.

Centro Laguna Fair

A monthly art and music fair will be held at Centro Laguna, Saturday, August 5, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Find paintings, pottery, clothes, hats, food, jewelry, Tupperware and enjoy local musicians.

Help the kids

The Ajijic Cabaret Troupe is performing “Summer Vacation” Saturday, August 26, 7 p.m. at the Iron Horse Bar & Grill as a benefit for Niños Incapacitados.
