Christmas for Jaltepec

This event for the Centro Educativo Jaltepec, the only Technical University in Hotel and Hospitality Management in all of Mexico, will take place a little earlier this year. 

pg16bA special dinner held on the Malecon in Chapala will be hosted by Gloria Rodriguez of Teocintle Maiz and Ana Paula Medeles of Casa Barragan on Thursday, November 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. with all profits going to benefit current and future students.  

Hors d’oeuvres will be prepared by the students, along with a special gourmet menu created by Rodriguez and Medeles. There will be entertainment courtesy of  Jesus Medeles and his family.

Floral show

The Lakeside Garden Guild’s 2023 Floral Art and Design Show is on Saturday, November 11, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Camino Real 131, Lower La Floresta, Ajijic. The Guild will be selling some of their dazzling arrangements.

Celebrating David Bryen

All who appreciated David Bryen are invited to a memorial celebration of his life on Sunday, November 12, noon at the Lake Chapala Society. A longtime resident of Lakeside, David was a writer, a psychotherapist, a wood craftsman and the coordinator of Open Circle at Lake Chapala.

Democrats Abroad

Lake Chapala Democrats Abroad will hold an in-person meeting (or via Zoom—your choice) Monday, November 13, 4 p.m. at La Bodega Ajijic. The focus will be on Reproductive Justice Now, presented by Trust Women Foundation executive directors Rebecca Tong and Schaunta James-Boyd. Topics include the impact of the Supreme Court Dobbs decision, ongoing criminalization of pregnant people and more. 

Everyone is welcome—including Independents—as the  2024 U.S. elections near.

Archeological Walk

What do we know of the Chapala Basin’s early history? What has been found by archaeologists? What does this tell us about the times Chapala lived through and it’s role in ancient times? These are some of the questions archeologist Peter Jimenez will be delving into on leisurely walks to the petroglyphs of Agua Caliente Wednesday, November 15.

If you’d like to go, meet at Diane Pearl Gallery, 9 a.m. The cost is 600 pesos and includes transportation and explanation in English. This event benefits Senderos de Mexico, an NGO formed of people who enjoy walking in the fresh air and work to maintain paths throughout the country. Chapala Birders

The Lake Chapala Birders meet Monday November 20, 8 a.m. at the Sculpture at the only traffic light in La Floresta, leaving immediately for the El Tigre Loop (a 60-minute drive). They will follow the route of the Rio de la Pasión and then ascend the mountain above Mazamitla. Bring refreshments for the morning and sandwiches for the 1 p.m. lunch stop.

Spanish conversation

The LCS intercambio group now gets together for conversation on Wednesdays, 4 to 5:30 p.m., at the Wilkes Center Biblioteca, Galeana 18. Sessions are open to everyone, free of charge.
