Memoir workshop

Doris Gallan is holding an Introduction to Memoir Writing Workshop to raise funds for the Lake Chapala Society (LCS).

She has helped six new authors complete their books and help get published. The class is January 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the LCS. “You’ll learn how to get started and keep going, how to organize yourself and your writing to finish your book and many tips on finding inspiration and overcoming some of the challenges of writing. Ukulele

A class is forming for new beginners or those who need a refresher on essential ukulele chords. Start as a beginner and play songs from the first lesson. Play classic rock and pop by the end of the class. Seven weekly sessions of one hour begin Friday, January 5, 1 p.m. Text and a songbook are included in the course. Mushrooms

Tavasi from Seattle is holding a mushroom growing workshop, Tuesday, January 9, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. No experience required.

There will be live demonstrations, hands-on practice, guidance and support from a professional mushroom cultivator. You will go home with your own mushroom grow kit, printed mushroom grow guide, and an understanding on how to care and connect with your mushrooms.

Tequila lovers

Jaltepec Technical Hospitality and Hotel University for young women is offering tour of Tequila Reserva de los Gonzalez in the Jalisco highlands.

This family owned tequila distiller and hacienda is near Atontonilco el Alto. The tour includes round-trip transportation from Ajijic in a 19-seat luxury van leaving at 9:30 a.m. from Centro Laguna and returning  about 5:30 p.m. The excursion includes a guided tour of the facilities by the owners, in English, a gourmet Mexican lunch with wine, tequila tasting, and refreshments. The 2,500-peso cost benefits the young women of Jaltepec as they secure a successful future for themselves and raise the economic standards of their families and communities.

Games

• Mexican Train Dominoes and Rummikub are played every Monday, 1:30 p.m. at Pancha La Bobas on the Pier in Ajijic. Beginners are welcome and will be taught. Rummikub is also played every Thursday.

• The Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation holds a game day the third Tuesday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. A selection of board games is available. Feel free to bring your favorite. Refreshments and snacks are potluck style.

• Britt Brain Benders Trivia is every Monday at 6 p.m. at Mama’s Musical Bar in San Antonio.

• Professional pool player Michael Goodliffe is offering free pool lessons at Mel’s Social Casa. He lives at Mel’s and can easily be found. All you need to do is cover your costs of using the Social Club.

English teachers wanted

Puerta Al Ingles is looking for volunteers to teach village children English. If you’ll be here from January to June, you could teach classes in San Juan Cosala and El Chante. It is not necessary to speak Spanish.
