UK baroness visits Jalisco governor

Baroness Jane Bonham-Carter, recently appointed as British Trade Envoy to Mexico, visited Guadalajara last week to promote bilateral trade.

Accompanied by British Ambassador to Mexico Judith McGregor, Bonham-Carter made a courtesy call to the Jalisco Government Palace, where they met with Governor Aristoteles Sandoval and signed the visitors’ book.

A cousin of the actress Helena Bonham Carter, Bonham-Carter worked in television before becoming a peer, spending time at both the BBC and Channel Four. A member of the British Liberal Democrat Party, she was created a life peer as Baroness Bonham-Carter of Yarnbury in 2004. Serving in the House of Lords (Great Britain’s second chamber), she became a spokesperson on broadcasting and the arts.

Bonham-Carter’s great-grandfather was former Prime Minister Herbert Henry Asquith (1908-1916).
