Six-million-dollar children’s shelter takes shape

Gonzalez laid the first stone of the “100 Corazones” home in the Jardin Real neighborhood in December 2010.  When finished it will provide round-the-clock attention to up to 100 youngsters, most of whom are being cared for in various children’s homes throughout the state.  They will be selected by the Jalisco Family Development Agency (DIF)

Funding for the 80-million-peso shelter came from federal and state funds, as well as private donors through the Fundacion Jalisco Incluye.

The home, located in an upscale, gated neighborhood of the city, has 48 double and triple rooms, lifts, medical and laundry areas, a dining room, parking for 80 cars and a chapel for 150 people.

The building covers 6,500 square meters, although the total space of the property is more than 26,000 square meters.
