Guadalajara marks Day Against Homophobia

Many wore black in honor of a young man named Edgar, who died on March 28, the victim of an apparent homophobic attack.  According to one report, 41 people died as a result of homophobic hate crimes committed in Jalisco between 1995 and 2008. They were aged between 11 and 70.  Present at the march was an Anglican priest, Mauricio Farah, who together with the group Diversidad en Cristo, called on all religions to be tolerant and respectful of people’s sexual preferences.

There was also a Tweet from Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, who noted that this was the first time the nation has observed this special day. Mexico records the second highest number of homophobic hate crimes in Latin American after Brazil.
