A first warrant was thrown out last year but prosecutors have continued to pursue the case.
Alvarez and his brother are accused of attacking pro boxer Ulises Solis after a disagreement at a park in October 2011.
Solis, 32, has boxed only twice since the incident and says his career has been badly affected by injuries sustained in the assault.
Alvarez’s lawyers have obtained an amparo (cease-and-desist order) to defer his arrest for the time being.
Alvarez suffered his first career defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year.
