Local lawyer files charges against elderly children’s shelter director

Events unfolded in the early afternoon both inside and outside a small but popular bakery situated next to the IMSS #2 clinic in the Santa Tere neighborhood of Guadalajara.

According to the police report, at least four attackers entered the bakery and threatened the store’s owner, Salvador Ledezma, 66, and his son Eduardo, 35.

When Salvador Ledezma produced a gun, shots were exchanged and a brief shootout ensued inside the store.

As they fled the bakery, one of the injured assailants collapsed to the ground a few meters from the entrance.  Meanwhile, another fired at a passing taxi, injuring the driver.

A large crowd had amassed by the time police officers arrived at the scene a few minutes later, by which time the wounded assailant had died.

Medics treated Ledezmas and the taxi driver for their injuries, which, thankfully, were not life threatening.

Neighbors told investigators that Salvador Ledezma had obtained a gun about three months ago after he became a target for extortionists.

Another version circulating this week suggested the assailants had gone to the bakery looking to kidnap Eduardo Ledezma.
