Ciudad del Sol neighbors build absorption wells to reduce flooding

Neighborhood Association President Armando Hernandez said the wells will help reduce the flooding and avoid thousands of gallons of rainwater from pouring wastefully into the sewers each year.

The four wells are each between six and ten meters deep and can filter contaminants contained in the water before the liquid passes into the ground.

Hernandez said the problem of flooding should not be minimalized but recognized that cash-strapped metro-area water utility Siapa has other priorities at the moment.

Francisco Ayon, president of Siapa’s Administrative Committee, recently declared that fixing flooding was not the institution’s main priority.  He said Siapa should concentrate on bringing running water to thousands of city residents currently living without this essential need.  He admitted that residents of many areas of the city would have to put up with flooding on a regular basis for some time to come.
