Guadalajara sets new taco record

Guadalajara set a new Guinness record Sunday with a 2,757-meter cochinita pibil taco, beating the previous record of 1,900 meters.

The taco was prepared by 300 volunteers coordinated by a team of chefs from the state of Yucatan. It was laid out on tables set up outside the landmark Cabañas Cultural Institute.

The taco required 2,200 kilograms of meat, 44,000 tortillas and 300 kilograms of condiments.

After a notary had verified the record, individual tacos were distributed in the plaza, as well as other parts of the city, including Plaza del Sol and Plaza Patria.

The record-breaking attempt was one of the many activities planned during the four-day Festival Internacional de Sabores Jalisco (COME).
