Family members have rejected a suggestion by Attorney General Luis Carlos Najera that Garcia Flores was probably killed by an organized crime gang, given the kind of weaponry used.
Three gunmen who arrived in late-model pick ups burst into the meeting and targeted the councilor with a hail of bullets before making a quick getaway. His son, Ivan Alejandro Garcia Flores, was slightly injured in the melee.
Was that a coincidence? On Monday of this week, almost exactly one month later, Garcia Flores was shot to death as he got into his SUV outside a car dealership in Tlaquepaque.
Again, Najera pointed the finger at a crime gang but this time preempted any criticism, saying the family have been slow to provide details that might help investigators solve both crimes.
Senior PRI figures have dismissed speculation that Garcia Flores was the victim of a botched robbery attempt and have demanded a full inquiry into the two murders.
