Traffic backed up this week on streets encircling downtown Zapopan as work started on the Basilica station of the city’s third Tren Ligero (subway) line.
Vehicles are being rerouted around the intersection by the Zapopan arches, where Americas and Avila Camacho meet. Some 60 traffic cops and hired helpers have been assigned to the zone to help with traffic flow, although authorities admit delays are inevitable.
Meanwhile, residents living in neighborhoods to the south of the city, including Bugambilias, are urging authorities to hurry up and finish the work currently taking place on Lopez Mateos Sur before the new school year begins on August 24.
