Recurring flooding at Guadalajara’s landmark yellow Arcos del Milenio monument is being caused by a build up of garbage blocking rain drains, Civil Protection officials say.
A flash flood this week saw water levels at the Lazaro Cardenas/Mariano Otero intersection rise to 50 centimeters. Officials at Guadalajara city hall urged citizens to be responsible and refrain from discarding trash in the public way.
The persistent rain is expected to continue through this weekend in most areas of Jalisco, the National Meteorological Service reports.
