Medics walk out to protest public sector shortages

Doctors from Guadalajara’s two public “Civil” hospitals (Viejo and Nuevo) took to the streets of Guadalajara on two consecutive days this week to highlight current shortages of materials which they say makes it impossible for them to do their jobs properly.

It’s not just the dearth of medicines that concerns the medics, but also the lack of basic materials such as syringes and gloves.

The doctors protested outside the office of the Jalisco Health Department, demanding that the national insurance program, Seguro Popular, releases 350 million pesos for services rendered by the Civil Hospitals.
