Goodbye Juan & Maria, hello Dylan & Britany

More and more parents in the Guadalajara metropolitan area are choosing Anglicized names for  their children. 

Kimberly and Melanie are now among the 15 most common girls’ names in Zapopan, Civil Registry records show. For boys, names such as Bryan, Gregory and Matthew are growing in popularity. 

Traditional names such as Maria, Guadalupe, Juan and Manuel are slowly being replaced by Britany, Ashley, Dylan and Kevin.

Unusual children’s names registered in the metro area over the past 12 months include Thor, Quexemmanie,  Uzziel,  Lirio de Nazareth, Ámbar Trixxy, Izcalichpochtzintli, Zidane, Beckham and Qohelet.
