Parents of slain teen urge citizens to get involved

The parents of a bright teen killed in carjacking in Guadalajara say they will work to widen the use of CityCop, a social GPS application that allows users to actively report crimes in their communities, identify criminals and receive alerts from others that are doing the same.

Users can choose their alert zones and receive information of what is happening in real time.

The measure is one of several proposed by the parents of Blas Ali Saras, who was shot to death in September when his mother’s SUV was assaulted near Colonia Bugambilias.

More than 500 people participated in a march Sunday organized by the couple in remembrance of their son.

Speaking to the crowd in the Plaza de la Liberation, Patricia Elena de Saras said their new association, Va por Blas y Todos, will be stressing the need for all citizens to file formal denuncias (official complaints) of crimes committed and play its part in helping to develop values in communities of greatest economic necessity.
