US Consulate donates items to Women’s Justice Center

The United States Consulate in Guadalajara has made a significant donation of supplies to the Women’s Justice Center (Centro de Justicia para las Mujeres) in Guadalajara,

an inter-institutional refuge and legal assistance agency operating under the umbrella of the Jalisco Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalia General del Estado).

The donation was comprised of four microwave ovens, a washing machine, a clothes drier, two tables, seven beds, blankets, pillows and sheets, with a value of approximately 6,300 dollars. The supplies will be used at the center’s shelter for victims of domestic violence.

During the donation ceremony, Consul General Tanya C. Anderson said, “Gender equality is critical for achieving our common goals of prosperity, stability and peace.” “If women’s lives are free of violence, their families prosper … and when their families prosper, so do their communities and countries.” 

The goal of the Women’s Justice Center is to provide comprehensive support – social, psychological and legal  – to female victims of violence.  The range of crimes this encompasses includes domestic violence, sexual abuse, people trafficking, kidnapping, enforced prostitution, incest and more.
