Denny’s returns to Guadalajara with two new branches

From the 1970s through the early 90s, American stalwart Denny’s was a fixture in Guadalajara, – its several open-all-day outlets always popular with expats in search of home-style comfort food.

Oddly, the brand disappeared for more than two decades, as newer north-of-the-border franchises bundled their way onto the city’s culinary scene: Chili’s, Applebees, Outback, etcetera.

But the famed U.S. diner did not lie down and die and now a second “reborn” Denny’s restaurant in the city is about to open on Avenida Lopez Mateos Sur, near the entrance to El Palomar subdivision.

Denny’s famous American breakfasts can once again be savored in the metro area.

Denny’s made its return to the city in September of last year, opening an outlet next to the Hampton Inn Hotel on the Chapala highway, between the Periferico (beltway) and turn off to El Salto.

The new branch, across busy Lopez Mateos Sur from Walmart, Sam’s Club and the Puerto de Hierro Sur Hospital, opens officially on March 22 and will offer the usual fare associated with Denny’s up north, with plenty of U.S.-style breakfast options, as well as Mexican variations.  Both Guadalajara branches are open 24 hours and have parking.

Denny’s was founded as Danny’s Donuts in Lakewood, California in 1953. It was renamed Denny’s in 1961 and now operates more than 1,600 restaurants in the United States and 15 other countries.
