Nine members of an extended family – four adults and five children – perished in a fire that broke out in a two-story house in Guadalajara’s Colonia Lomas de Independencia neighborhood last weekend.
The blaze started on the lower floor in the early hours of the morning, trapping most of the family members upstairs.
Three males, aged 30, 24 and 15, managed to escape unharmed. According to one of the survivors, there had been a short circuit in the electricity meter a few days earlier and he presumed that was probably the cause of the blaze. The house on Calle Monte Blanco was occupied by three generations of the family.
