Governor fed up with exorbitant fees on Jalisco’s federal toll roads

Governor Enrique Alfaro said he will lobby federal authorities to reduce the high cost of using two toll roads in Jalisco and Nayarit: the highway from Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta, and the Guadalajara Macrolibramiento (outer ring road).

pg3cAlfaro said he wants to find a solution falling within the framework of the 2024 federal budget package. Both highways are administered by the federal Ministry of Infrastructure, Transportation and Communications (SCT).

The cost of driving from Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta using autopistas is now more than 2,100 pesos for a round trip. This will increase further once the final stretch from Compostela to Las Varas is completed next year.

The Macrolibramiento has been woefully under-used since its opening in 2017. It is anticipated that more drivers would take the highway if the fees were lowered, thus - potentially - reducing traffic congestion in the metropolitan area. The four-lane, 111-kilometer road runs to the south of Guadalajara and connects the Zapotlanejo/Mexico City autopista with the Nogales Highway to Puerto Vallarta, Tepic and northwestern Mexico.
