U.S. Open finalist Coco Gauff and semi-finalist Madison Keys are both pencilled in to participate in the GDL Open AKRON featuring the world’s best female tennis players, scheduled September 17 to 23 at the Pan American Tennis Center in Zapopan.
This Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 1000 event is one the nine top-tier tournaments on the annual calendar, in addition to the four Grand Slams. Prize money for the tournament totals nearly US$2.8 million.
The WTA website lists seven of the world’s top ten female players who have committed to the GDL Open, including last year’s winner Jessica Pegula of the United States.
The singles event features 64 players, while 32 pairs play in the doubles competition. Main stadium tickets are cheapest during the first four days of the event, Sunday, September 17 to Wednesday, September 20, when the daily rates run from 400 to 1,350 pesos.
