English teachers to gather for half-century celebration

The Mexican Association of Teachers of English (Mextesol) will hold its 50th international convention from October 27 to 29 at Expo Guadalajara.

MEXTESOL is a professional academic association founded in 1973 by a group of English teachers interested in strengthening English language teaching in Mexico. Its stated mission is to promote “the highest standards for teaching English to speakers of other languages so that their students can communicate effectively in all the diverse situations in which they may find themselves.”

The slogan of the 50th convention is “Fostering Community Collaborations: Five Decades of Professional Development in ELT.” The plenary speakers are Jeremy Harmer (one of the leading authors of English-language teaching materials), Laura Lewin, Mary Scholl, Rosalia Valero and Mario Herrera.
