Seven tourists from northern Mexico died Tuesday when a trailer truck slammed into a Sprinter van on the Nogales Highway near the town of Santa Cruz del Astillero, in El Arenal, about 20 kilometers from the Guadalajara Periferico.
Three others were injured. All the deceased—three women and four men—were traveling in the van, Civil Protection officials confirmed.
The van, which sported Baja California license plates, was totally destroyed after it became sandwiched between the trailer and another truck. Civil Protection said brake failure was a possible cause of the accident.
