Canada’s ‘Starbucks’ inches closer to Guadalajara?

Tim Hortons, the popular Canadian multinational coffeehouse and restaurant chain, has opened its first outlet in Mexico City, in the high-end Samara Shops shopping center in the upmarket Santa Fe neighborhood.

Occupying a 200 m² space, the restaurant will serve its trademark coffee, Canadian-style snacks, and its famous bite-sized fried-dough confections known as “Timbits.”

Tim Hortons opened its first Mexico branch in Monterrey in 2017. It has expanded to 51 outlets in and around the Nuevo Leon capital, as well as the neighboring states of Coahuila and Queretaro.

Tim Hortons’ plans include more branches iºn Mexico City and around the country, including Guadalajara. The chain was founded in 1964 by Canadian hockey player Tim Horton (1930–1974) and has grown to more than 5,300 restaurants in 15 countries.
