Tequila, food, soccer history... all found at Alma Jalisco

A new cultural space and entertainment option offering a unique view of the Guadalajara Cathedral and its surroundings has opened in the city center.

Alma Jalisco is located on the top floor (the fifth) of the Mercado Corona, the covered market on Avenida Hidalgo located a block from Plaza Guadalajara and city hall (Palacio Municipal).

It has taken the Guadalajara government 7 years since the current iteration of the market opened (the old one burned down in 2014) to find a purpose for the empty top floor of the facility.

After some extensive refurnishing, this large space boasting a panoramic view of the city now contains two free “museums” dedicated to emblematic Jalisco legacies: the cultivation of agave and production of tequila, and the local Chivas soccer team, known respectively as Mundo Tequila and Mundo Chivas (Tequila World and Chivas World). This space also displays exhibits of clothing and accessories connected to mariachi music and charreria.

Chivas World features virtual reality simulators for soccer fans, and has the team’s jerseys and other merchandise on sale.
