‘Together We Will Make History’ alliance to battle ruling Citizens Movement for control of Jalisco

Several of Jalisco’s smaller left-of-center parties have joined forces with the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) in a bid to wrestle the statehouse from the ruling Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) in next year’s gubernatorial election.

pg2a copyMorena has teamed up with the Labor Party (Partido del Trabajo), Green Party, Hagamos and Futuro to field a single candidate to face Guadalajara Mayor Pablo Lemus of the MC, and a yet-to-be-chosen contender from the PRI, PAN and PRD alliance, which is known as the Frente por Jalisco.

The Morena-led alliance—called Juntos Haremos Historia (Together We Will Make History)—last week selected Claudia Delgadillo, a federal legislator now representing the Green Party, as its candidate to battle Lemus, who enjoys a clear lead in the early polls. The Frente por Jalisco has also promised to field a female candidate.

The primary season (known as the pre-candidate selection process) for political parties runs from November to January. However, with both Lemus and Delgadillo running unopposed, the excitement in local political circles is at an unsurprisingly low ebb.
