Construction of the Guadalajara International Airport’s second runway should be completed by January 2024,according to Martín Pablo Zazueta Chávez, director of Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico (GAP), the facility’s operators.
But it will be March or April when the first commercial planes will be able to take off and touch down on the new runway, he said.
The new runway will be able to handle 60 take-offs and landings per hour, he said, and although there won’t be simultaneous operations with the other runway, the airport’s capacity will increase by 50 percent.
Meanwhile, work on other infrastructure improvements at the Guadalajara Airport will continue throughout 2024, including the construction of a second terminal, new car park, hotel and hangers, as well as further upgrades to the arrival and departure areas.
