Speed cameras were busier last year

A record number of tickets were issued last year in Jalisco for vehicles caught on cameras being driven above the official speed limit.

The 1.8 million fotomultas sent out surpassed the 1.5 million issued in 2022.  Just over one-fifth (21 percent) of the speeding offenses were clocked on the Guadalajara ring road (periferico), which has 23 cameras in operation, by far the highest number of any road in the metropolitan area.

Other major city avenues where cameras are installed and high numbers of tickets were issued in 2023 included Juan Gil Preciado, López Mateos, Vallarta, Camino Real a Colima, Mariano Otero, Revolución, Lázaro Cárdenas, Aviación and Calzada del Servidor Público.

Speeding fines paid within 11 days of notification obtain a 50-percent discount, and a 25-percent discount if paid between 12 and 26 business days. They can be paid online, at banks, in certified stores and at state tax collection offices.

Unpaid speeding fines will be added up and charged together with the annual refrendo (Jalisco vehicle registration) fee, along with the appropriate additional late payment charges.  The refrendo cannot be issued if outstanding traffic fines corresponding to a vehicle are not paid.
