Seven young persons from the Palestine Solidarity Committee of Guadalajara were arrested after painting a mural with the words “Free Palestine” on the facade of the Channel 13 media outlet, located beside the Rambla Cataluña and the Universidad de Guadalajara rectory building.
The committee said many murals and displays of solidarity toward various causes have been painted on this wall space, and called the arrests an act of censorship and an attack on free expression.
Videos posted on social media showed police officers trying to handcuff the activists, some of whom later said excessive force was used against them.
The young men and women were released after agreeing to erase the mural.
The committee, which goes under the name Comité Leonés de Solidaridad con Palestina, has asked Guadalajara and Jalisco to clarify the situation and guarantee that similar acts of aggression against activists and citizens are not repeated.
