AMSOC to headline models & magicians

Two unusual events—a magic show and a fashion show—are set for the American Society of Jalisco (AMSOC), organized by the principals of the Guadalajara thrift shop on AMSOC’s street level, Tres Flores.

The magic show, on Saturday, February 17, 1 to 2 p.m., stars Mago Tony, a French national who recently moved from Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta and is returning here for the show. Mago Tony frequently travels around Mexico to places that seem likely to benefit from the show and education he offers. His Facebook page, MagicTonyF, mentions over 350 charitable shows given around the world. Entrance to Saturday’s show is 50 pesos per family. Mago Tony will also sell magic kits for 500 pesos, which include an hourlong workshop after the show, from 2 to 3 p.m.

The fashion show on Sunday, February 25, 5 p.m., is an ambitious affair mostly organized by Denise Perry to highlight clothes for sale at Tres Flores. The outfits will be modeled by six women, two men and three children showing two outfits each. For weeks, the models have been practicing to parade past viewers sitting at tables and chairs, along a catwalk that will run through two rooms indoors as well as outdoors, said Tres Flores principal Christine Walker, adding that Perry “is really good at this.” The models will be accompanied by specially selected music. Sodas will be for sale and the AMSOC bar open. Donations to enter are accepted at the door. They will go to support CapacitHadas, a group that trains domestic workers in needed skills, including reading and computer use.
