The impressive new U.S. consulate under construction in Guadalajara will be finished by the summer, the U.S. consul general and the Jalisco governor both confirmed last week.
The pair spoke at the inauguration of the revamped glorieta facing the 3.5-hectare consulate site at the corner of avenidas Manuel Acuña and Aztecas in the city’s upscale Colonia Monraz.
The renovations to the busy traffic circle are part of a major infrastructure renewal initiative in the neighborhood and its surrounds undertaken by the municipal government in tandem with state authorities.
Guadalajara Public Works Director Francisco Ontiveros said the work entailed the installation of new road surfaces, sidewalks, illumination, speed bumps, cycle paths and water and electricity infrastructure, to the tune of 210 million pesos (US$12.2 million). Around 300 new trees have been planted in the zone, he added.
