American School to host wide-ranging Art Fest

Guadalajara residents and visitors from further afield will once again have the opportunity to stroll around the sports fields of the American School Foundation, looking at the work of 50 artists, and enjoy all the related activities: art workshops for children, music, dance, international food prepared by well known local restaurants (Focaccia, Labne, Toyo, etc.), and even poetry and magic.

pg4The event takes place on Saturday, March 2, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A highlight this year is the auction at the Manifesto Gallery the night before the outdoor fair. This traditional auction is set for Friday, March 1, 7 to 11 p.m.

This year the auction will include not only artists in the Art Fest and a few pieces by high school students, but work by luminaries, such as a lithograph by Leonora Carrington, which has the highest estimated price (220,000 pesos) of anything in the auction, and a provocative 1980, black and white photograph, “La Rubia de Broadway,” by Jose Hernandez-Claire (estimated at 64,000 pesos). Carrington died in 2011 and Hernandez-Claire in 2021.
