Women’s Day marches planned March 8

Feminist groups will make their voices heard in downtown Guadalajara on International Women’s Day (IWD), Friday, March 8.

pg4The largest contingent will leave the Rotonda de los Jaliscienses Ilustres at 4:30 p.m., and head toward the Glorieta de los Ninos Héroes (also known as the Monumento a los Desparecidos), via Juárez and Chapultepec. This group will include relatives of missing persons and permit the participation of men. A more radical group, the Frente Feminista por Jalisco, will start from the Ninos Héroes glorieta at 4 p.m. and walk to the Matute Remus suspension bridge, passing along Mariano Otero and Lázaro Cárdenas. In past Women’s Day marches, participants from this group have perpetrated acts of violence against public property.  As in the past, the march will be carefully policed, although largely by female officers.
