Movimiento Antorchista dances for a cause

But this is no straightforward folkloric performance. It is a protesta cultural, a deliberate and powerful form of resistance.

The dances are designed to draw attention to unfulfilled government promises.

For over a year, the campesino movement’s leaders say they have been waiting for a response to a petition delivered in December 2024 to Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus.

They want a direct dialogue with him on issues that directly affect the daily survival of impoverished campesino families in Jalisco: access to clean water and drainage, electrification of entire neighborhoods, paved roads, health clinics with essential medicines, new classrooms, housing support, and other kinds of financial aid.

The Movimiento Antorchista (often called Antorcha Campesina) is a large, national grassroots left-wing political and social organization, founded in 1974.
