Along with the national holidays that will be observed during 2020, there are a number of noteworthy festivities and special events scheduled over the next 12 months in the Guadalajara metro area.

A chink of light has emerged in the long-drawn-out battle between a farmers’ cooperative (ejido) and the federal government over the Guadalajara Airport and compensation payments dating back over three decades.

A special treat served to celebrate Three Kings Day (January 6) is the rosca de reyes – a crown-shaped sweet bread decorated with jewel-like candied fruits.

The Jewish community in Guadalajara and the Archdiocese of Guadalajara teamed up to provide seasonal meals for around 10,000 people living in challenging economic circumstances on the periphery of the metropolitan area. 

Although the exact figures are still to be released, the number of homicides recorded last year in the Guadalajara metropolitan area is expected to reach record levels.
