Pro-Palestinian protests continue as AMLO calls for a ceasefire

Worldwide protests calling for an end to the Israeli military operation in Gaza were held last weekend, including a march in the Guadalajara city center that attracted around 100 participants.

pg3aThe latest outbreak of violence in the decades-long Israel-Palestine conflict was triggered by a surprise attack by Hamas on October 7, when gunmen infiltrated southern Israel through a network of tunnels and killed 1,400 people and took about 240 hostages.

More than 100 protestors, accompanied by members of the Palestinian community in Guadalajara, marched from the Parque Revolucion (Rojo)—a traditional meeting place for militant organizations—to the downtown Plaza de Armas, where a rally was held.

The protestors carried Palestinian flags and banners demanding a end to the “genocide” in Gaza, peace for Palestine and sanctions to be taken against Israel.

Speakers highlighted the deaths of several thousand of children that have resulted from Israel’s response to the October 7 atrocities, and the humanitarian nightmare of thousands of people in Gaza who are living without electricity or water.
