Weight loss is gain for local and national charities

Members of Weight Watchers tallied up their weight loss from September 2 through October 20 as part of their annual “Lose for Good” campaign.

Weight Watchers Mexico will donate 20 percent of the total number of kilos lost nationwide to the national food bank in the form of non-perishable food products.

The campaign also offers members the opportunity to celebrate their weight loss by helping those less fortunate in their own communities.

Members of Weight Watchers Ajijic lost 178.6 pounds (81 kilos) during the eight-week campaign. Twenty percent of that amount will be part of Weight Watchers Mexico’s donation of food products to the national food bank.

Local members also made a donation to Operation Compassion that serves more than 100 meals a day to residents of San Antonio Tlayacapan. Thomas Music, founder and director of Operation Compassion, attended the Weight Watchers meeting on October 18 to receive food and 2,470 pesos donated by members in commemoration of their weight-loss efforts.

The Weight Watchers meeting in Ajijic offers the same program materials and many products as are available in Canada and the United States. It is held every Thursday at La Bodega Restaurant in Ajijic. New members are encouraged to arrive no later than 9:45 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 10:30 a.m. For further information go to www.weightwatchers.com.mx.
