Lakeside area environmental activists and organic food proponents will be joining the worldwide March on Monsanto campaign slated for Saturday, May 25.
A rally scheduled for 10 a.m. at the outdoor amphitheater on Ajijic’s Malecon will focus on critical global issues related to the production, availability and safety of food.
The campaign here and elsewhere specifically targets the iron grip of Monsanto, the multinational agricultural biotechnology corporate giant that is at the center of controversy concerning genetic manipulation of the food supply, the use of pesticides and monopolization of the farming sector.
Preserving the purity and diversity corn species, Mexico’s most basic food source, is a major topic of interest on the local front.
