Under the title Manos para cuidar el Lago (Hands to care for the Lake), a loose-knit group of local activists is putting out the call for volunteers to conduct a massive one-day clean-up of Lake Chapala’s shoreline, slated for Saturday, June 1, from 9 to 11 a.m.
Litter collectors will fan out from the waterfront Malecon in Chapala, Ajijic, San Juan Cosala, El Chante and Jocotepec. Participants are advised to wear cool, comfortable clothing, sturdy shoes, headgear and protective gloves. Bring a cup or thermos for liquid refreshments that will be provided by organizers. The municipal government is contributing trash bags and refuse pick-up service to support the effort.
