Ajijic beach turns into paid parking zone

Ajijic town administrator Hector España has unveiled a plan to utilize the beach area just east of the local pier as a paid parking zone, taking effect as of Monday, June 3.

The principal aims of the project are to provide motorists with a secure place to station their vehicles and to relieve traffic congestion in the center of town.

The parking lot will be tightly managed by one feisty senior woman and two male assistants, España reports. Initial hours are set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, with extended hours arranged on holidays and dates for special events.

Controlled entrance and exit points will be on Calle Morelos at the foot of the pier and the intersection of Ramon Corona and Paseo del Lago, near the lower entrance to the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) grounds. The service goes for a flat fee of 30 pesos per vehicle, with no time limit.

LCS members will be eligible to obtain a special pass allowing them free use of the parking area during the organization’s regular operating hours, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Similar arrangements will be offered to clients of the adjacent Posada Ajijic, Yves Restaurant and Tequila Republic.
