With the Virgin of Zapopan’s summer pilgrimage and the Mud Festival off-road vehicle event (see above right) both booked for Sunday, July 14, motorists should think twice before setting out to drive to or through Chapala that day.
Traffic congestion should be anticipated from 10 a.m. as vehicles traveling through the center of town via avenidas Madero and Hidalgo are rerouted or blocked outright while religious festivities are underway. Parking restrictions will be implemented in the heart of the downtown area. The north end of Madero between the Soriana supermarket and the Pemex station is likely to be another major point of conflict.
