Lake Chapala is recovering its water level well and has gained 39 centimeters since the first rains of the season began on June 13.
The lake has risen by one or two centimeters a day over the last two weeks, although the National Water Commission (Conagua) notes that it has still only made up a quarter of the 1.45 meters of water lost during the dry season in the nine months from September 13, 2012 – one of the worst droughts in the last 20 years.
The lake has risen more than at this stage in 2011 and 2012, when it rose 24 and 33 centimeters respectively, but significantly less than in 2010, when it had risen by 94 centimeters by this point.
