Birders set key dates in December

Lake Chapala Birders will meet Wednesday, December 11, 8 a.m., for an observation walk along the San Antonio Malecón. The shallow lagoon and natural vegetation at this location is ideal for sightings of herons, egrets, ducks and kingbirds. The nature lovers will wrap up the experience with breakfast and note sharing at the nearby Sunrise Restaurant.

The group has also slated the eighth annual Ajijic Christmas Bird Count for Monday, December 16. The goal is to form six teams to register different species found within a 15-mile-diameter circle. Everyone is welcome to sign-up to take part in this important inventory of local wildlife. All participants are invited to attend a celebration dinner to be held at 6 p.m. the same day.

The Cienega Christmas Bird Count at the east end of the lake is scheduled for Wednesday, December 18. This is an all-day affair that attracts serious birders who will be divided into two counting teams.
